I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I earned my A.B. in Sociology from the University of Chicago, and my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and my Ph.D. in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Michigan, where I was a National Institute on Aging fellow. A devoted life-long learner, I completed post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Medical Ethics and Advanced Psychodynamic Clinical Practice at the University of Chicago, as well as the Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
I work with individual adults of all ages and backgrounds. I will collaborate with you to find a therapeutic approach that draws upon your strengths and is appropriate for your style, needs and specific concerns. Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship is the key to a successful therapeutic experience, and the relationship that we will develop will become central to our work together. I bring a natural sense of curiosity and empathy to our conversations, and people generally find me to be warm, non-judgmental, good humored, and very easy to talk to. I am psychodynamically oriented, with an emphasis on Self Psychology and relational approaches. I believe our past informs and influences our present and our future, and we will work together to uncover and identify patterns that may no longer be working for you. In addition, I have training in mindfulness practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and utilize these techniques when appropriate.
I have clinical and research experience in the areas of health, wellness, aging and end of life issues, and teach courses on those topics at the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
Areas of expertise include:
